City of Fairbury City Council met June 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Jerry Hoffman, James Tipton, Bill Schmidgall. Gary Norris was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Hoffman to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the June 7, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. NONE

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief- absent → Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent– none

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – none

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief - none

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported –

• The City received a demolition permit for the Old Hospital

• Leak detection services will begin in the following weeks

• Advises council on potential Level 1 water restriction if it does not rain soon

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – none

A. Consideration to approve a liquor license application from Buckey’s Place of Fairbury LLC at 204 W Locust St

B. Motion by Hoselton, second by Endres to approve sale of Wastewater Department tractor for $40,000. Motion carried 6-1 YES Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Schmidgall NO- Tipton

C. Consideration to approve purchase of utility cart for Wastewater Department -TABLED

D. Motion by Tipton, second by Weber to approve Fairbury Fair sponsorship in the amount of $500 as well as a donation of Police Dept presence at the Fair. Motion carried 7-0 YES Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

E. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoffman to approve a biannual clothing allowance of $50 for Fire Department attire. Motion carried 7-0 YES Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

F. Motion by Kinate, second by Schmidgall to approve revised pay ordinance. Motion carried 7-0 Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

13. Executive Session

Motion by Kinate, second by Schmidgall to enter Executive Session at 7:19pm. Motion carried 7-0 YES- Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

A. Personnel – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee).

Motion by Schmidgall, second by Tipton to enter Open Session @ 7:44 pm.
