Chuck Erickson, a candidate for District 88 House and an ardent advocate of Second Amendment rights, recently publicized the renewal of his Illinois Concealed Carry License. Through a Facebook post featuring his license, Erickson underscored his dedication to responsible firearm ownership.

“Concealed Carry License. Took my renewal class for my Illinois Concealed Carry License last night," Erickson said. "For this picture, I believe I redacted all identifying information off of it."

"This Pro 2nd Amendment candidate does have a concealed carry license and has applied to renew it."

This development coincides with the upcoming deadline when the U.S. Supreme Court is anticipated to hear a challenge against the contentious gun ban.

The Protecting Illinois Communities Act, which prohibits over 170 types of semi-automatic firearms, is currently facing legal hurdles. According to Prairie State Wire, an appeal against this law is unlikely to be resolved before the January 1, 2024 registration deadline for Illinois firearm owners.

The lawsuit, Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois v. Pritzker, questions the constitutionality of this gun ban. It alleges violations of both the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. The plaintiff coalition comprising Federal Firearms Licensees of Illinois, Guns Save Life and Gun Owners of America argues that this law unjustly categorizes commonly owned firearms as "assault weapons". They also express concerns about registration infringing upon constitutional rights.

Erickson expressed his unwavering support for gun rights on his campaign website noting his lifetime membership with the Illinois State Rifle Association and Guns Save Life.

His website portrays an inspiring journey from working in Central Illinois factories to establishing a distinguished legal career coupled with active community involvement.

Erickson’s early years were marked by hard work, as he spent four years in various factories in Central Illinois before embarking on his academic journey.

He enrolled at Parkland College in 1987 and graduated with honors. This achievement led to his acceptance into Illinois State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He later gained admission to the esteemed Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. Notably, Erickson was the only child in his family to attend college.

Erickson, who has been practicing law in Bloomington since 1997, is not just a legal professional but also a significant figure in local governance.

Appointed to the McLean County Board in 2011, Erickson has been elected and re-elected in subsequent years - 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2022. Currently serving as the Chairman of the Justice Committee and holding the rank of the Finance Committee’s ranking member, Erickson's extensive experience positions him as a seasoned candidate.

Erickson’s commitment to law enforcement has earned him the endorsement of former McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage and current Sheriff Matt Lane, as stated on his campaign website. His tireless advocacy for the men and women in uniform adds a distinctive layer to his candidacy.

Erickson aims to succeed state Rep. Dan Caulkins who has decided not to run for re-election. The district he hopes to represent, House District 88 encompasses McLean, Macon, Piatt and DeWitt counties according to Ballotpedia.
