TJ Barger, golfer | Illinois State Redbirds
For the second time this fall, Illinois State University golfer TJ Barger has been named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Golfer of the Week. This marks the seventh time in his career that Barger has received this recognition.
Barger's latest honor follows his performance at the Dayton Flyer Invitational, where he tied for sixth place with an even-par score of 213 over three rounds at NCR South Country Club. His individual round scores were 73, 69, and 71. Over the course of the fall season, Barger recorded 11 rounds at or under par out of a total of 15 rounds played. He now has 40 career rounds at or under par, tying him for fifth-most in school history with Zach Burry, who competed from 2014 to 2018.
This season, Barger's average is 70.1 strokes per round and he has finished in the top ten in four out of five events. In his collegiate career, he has reached the top ten on ten occasions and placed within the top five seven times—two during this season alone. His current stroke average could become the second-lowest single-season mark in program history. Barger's career average stands at 72.4 strokes per round, which is just behind David Perkins' record.
With the conclusion of their fall schedule, Illinois State's men's golf team will begin its spring season on February 16 at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
