KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team and eight individuals were recognized on Monday, July 15, as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its Team Academic Excellence Awards along with its Honors Court.
"The NABC is proud to celebrate these accomplished student-athletes, along with the coaches and staff who champion success in the classroom," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "Education is a core value of the NABC, and the teams and athletes who earned these awards are proof that academic achievement remains a priority across every level of our sport."
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2023-24 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court includes junior, senior, and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2023-24 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. These academic awards recognize teams and athletes from all levels of college basketball.
Representing Illinois Wesleyan University on the NABC Honors Court are Trey Bazzell (Fairbury, Ill.-Prairie Central), Grant Hardy (Grayslake, Ill.-Grayslake Central), Shane Miller (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield), Nick Roper (St. Louis, MICDS), Evan Schneider (St. Louis, Mo.-Ladue), Ryan Sroka (Lake in the Hills, Ill.-Huntley), Harrison Wilmsen (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory), and Luke Yoder (Normal, Ill.-Central Catholic).
Over 2,100 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court and over 360 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2023-24. Illinois Wesleyan was one of five College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin programs to garner the award alongside Augustana College, Carthage College, Carroll University, and Wheaton College. Illinois Wesleyan's eight Honors Court awardees tied for second-most in their conference.
Illinois Wesleyan posted a 19-8 record during the 2023-24 season and won the CCIW Regular Season Championship. Four Titans received All-CCIW honors with two earning all-region status.
