The 2024-25 Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf season is set to commence with the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State University, on Sunday and Monday, September 8-9. The event will be held at Weibring Golf Club and will feature 36 holes of play on Sunday, followed by a single round on Monday.
Representing Illinois Wesleyan are seniors Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony), Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs), Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High), sophomore Nora Cerroni (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha North), and freshman Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy). Additionally, senior Kylie Hundman (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) and sophomore Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.-Wauwatosa East) will compete as individuals.
The tournament will be contested on the par-72, 6093-yard Weibring Golf Club. Illinois Wesleyan is the sole Division III team among a field that includes ISU, Bradley, Butler, Drake, Evansville, Indiana State, IU Indianapolis, Little Rock, Loyola (Chicago), Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and Valparaiso. Notably participating for Northern Illinois is Emma Thorman who concluded her distinguished four-year Titan career in May.
With the new season's onset comes a reorganization within the coaching staff announced by IWU athletic director Mike Wagner. Craig Onsrud has been appointed interim head coach while Patrick Freeman transitions to an assistant coach role. This adjustment allows Freeman more time with his family while ensuring continuity of the program’s success established by Freeman and longtime head coach Kathy Niepagen.
Live scoring for the 54-hole event will be available through Clippd. Results will also be posted on iwusports.com at the end of each day.
