The Illinois State track and field team completed the first day of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The event was marked by junior Mattison Plummer's top-10 performance and victory in the steeplechase at Drake Stadium.
At the Drake Relays, Illinois State's distance squad initiated their weekend. Junior Zack Loomis finished ninth in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:25.74. Sophomore Garrett Slack followed with an 11th place finish in the men's 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:52.42.
In women's events, junior Mattison Plummer won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:12.83. This performance placed her fourth on Illinois State University's all-time list.
Meanwhile, at the Kip Janvrin Invite, junior Lauren Schulze achieved a personal best by finishing fourth in the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:38.85. Sophomore Maggie Reed secured eighth place with a time of 4:43.32.
Day two of the Drake Relays is scheduled to continue tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m.
