Illinois Wesleyan ends regular season with loss to North Park

The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team concluded its regular season with a senior day match against North Park University at Jack Horenberger Field on May 4. The Titans were defeated 15-2, bringing their record to 23-15 overall and 12-8 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Meanwhile, the Vikings improved to 28-11 overall and 16-4 in the league, securing a share of the CCIW Regular Season Championship and the top seed for the upcoming tournament.

North Park took an early lead by scoring in each of the first three innings, resulting in a commanding 9-0 advantage that they maintained throughout the game.

For Illinois Wesleyan, junior Jimmy Gurgone from Mokena and sophomore Tommy Willard from Downers Grove each contributed RBIs despite the loss. The Titans managed eight hits spread among eight players, while North Park recorded 15 hits, including four extra-base hits.

Illinois Wesleyan utilized seven pitchers during the game, with senior Josh Ralston from Frankfort taking the loss as pitcher of record.

Looking ahead to the CCIW Tournament scheduled for May 8-11 at North Park University, Illinois Wesleyan will enter as the No. 3 seed. They are set to face either Augustana or Carthage depending on results from a doubleheader occurring today in Rock Island. Their first tournament game is slated for Wednesday, May 8 as part of game two of the tournament series; specific times have yet to be announced.
