Illinois State women's tennis falls to No.43 Marshall

The Illinois State women's tennis team faced a tough challenge against the No. 43 ranked Marshall Thundering Herd, resulting in a 4-0 defeat at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center in Huntington. This match left Illinois State with an even record of 4-4, while Marshall improved to 9-1.

Despite the loss, Illinois State had notable performances from juniors Silvia Pomarolli and Lana Caculovic, who were recently named to the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week. In doubles play, Caculovic and Pomarolli secured a victory over Alina Mokrynskaya and Emma Vanderheyden from Marshall with a score of 6-4. However, their efforts were not enough to secure an overall win for the team.

In other doubles matches, Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane of Marshall defeated Elena Jankulovska and Emma Lindh from Illinois State by 6-4. Johanna Strom and Nel Van Hout also contributed to Marshall's success by defeating Nicole Iosio and Nuria Sanz with a score of 6-1.

The singles matches saw further victories for Marshall as Johanna Strom defeated Lana Caculovic 6-3, 6-3; Sophia Hurrion overcame Nuria Sanz with scores of 6-2, 6-2; and Aisling McGrane won against Elena Jankulovska by 6-2, 6-0. Other singles matches involving Emma Vanderheyden versus Silvia Pomarolli and Alina Mokrynskaya versus Emma Lindh remained unfinished.

Illinois State will look to bounce back as they prepare to face Radford University next. The match is scheduled for tomorrow at noon.
