Illinois State's baseball team faced a 2-0 defeat against Jacksonville in their series opener on Friday at John Sessions Stadium. Senior Tanner Perry delivered a notable performance, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings for the Redbirds, who now stand at 0-3.

The Dolphins secured their victory with key plays in the seventh inning, including a one-out single followed by back-to-back RBI doubles. The Redbirds managed to record three hits but struggled to capitalize on opportunities as they had only five base runners throughout the game and never more than one per inning.

Sophomore Matthew Donnison contributed 1.2 innings of relief, striking out three batters. With this result, Illinois State's record against Jacksonville moves to 1-3 historically.

The Redbirds will continue their weekend series against the Dolphins on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT.
