Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf ranks fourth after day one at Golfweek Classic

The 2023 Golfweek October Classic began on Sunday, October 15, at the Baytowne Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida. The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team, ranked No. 14, posted a score of 304 after the first round. With two rounds remaining, the team is currently in fourth place.

Pomona-Pitzer leads the tournament with an impressive opening round score of 286, achieved through three rounds of par-or-better. Emory follows in second place with a score of 302, while Washington & Lee holds third place at 303, just one stroke ahead of Illinois Wesleyan. Grinnell completes the top five with a score of 306. Jessica Mason from Pomona-Pitzer is leading individually with a three-under-par score of 69.

Seniors Emma Thorman and Lexi Onsrud led Illinois Wesleyan's performance on day one by both shooting two-over-par scores of 74. They are tied for eighth place among the field of 120 players. Junior Jadyn Spinks is tied for 15th place with a score of 75.
