The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team began their participation in the Golfweek October Classic on Sunday, October 13, with a first-round score of 301. The event is being held at The Links, a par-72 course measuring 5,611 yards in Sandestin, Florida. After the initial round, the Titans are tied for seventh place among 24 teams.
Senior Jadyn Spinks from Bloomington, Illinois led her team with a one-under-par score of 71. Starting on the back nine, Spinks managed to birdie three of her last eight holes and is currently tied for fourth place in a field of 124 players.
Freshman Gigi Zera and sophomore Nora Cerroni both scored four-over-par rounds of 76 and are tied for 39th place. Senior Kylie Hundman achieved a hole-in-one on the 124-yard twelfth hole.
The leaderboard shows a three-way tie at two-under-par between Emory's Zimo Li, Rhode's Ava Bankston, and Denison's Natalia Fanucchi. WashU leads the team standings with a score of three-over-par (291), followed by Emory at 293. Carnegie Mellon and Carleton share third place with scores of 294 each. Williams holds fifth position with a score of 296.
The second round will take place tomorrow, October 14. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat, and results will be posted on iwusports.com after the round concludes.
