A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Chenoa on October 30, 2024. The request was made by us at McLean County Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the FOIA request, we sought records pertaining to both new and active residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. Specifically, we requested details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property in question, and contractor's name.
The primary purpose behind this request is our commitment to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
We also expressed our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information.
We are currently awaiting a response from the City of Chenoa regarding this FOIA request.
