FOIA Request to Livingston County Clerk Regarding 2025 Consolidated Elections Candidates on January 14, 2025.
On behalf of McLean County Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request specifically sought an electronic list of candidates running for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections. The information requested includes the candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the office they are running for.
As members of the media, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Livingston County Clerk's office regarding this request.
