The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team is set to begin its spring season with two matches at Wabash College on Saturday, February 1. The Titans, currently standing at 0-1, will first compete against the Little Giants before facing Cedarville University in a neutral match in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
This marks Illinois Wesleyan's return to competition since September 21, 2024. During that period, juniors Ian Turnbull and Ben Vigneri participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional. Both players reached the consolation round of 16 in doubles play. Individually, Vigneri advanced to the consolation round of 16 while Turnbull reached the round of 32.
The upcoming match against Wabash will be the 12th meeting between the two teams since 2000. Illinois Wesleyan holds a lead in their series with a record of 7-4 and has won their last two encounters. Their most recent victory was on March 10, 2020, when they achieved a decisive 9-0 win during a spring break trip in Orlando, Florida. For Wabash, this will be their first dual match of the current season and their inaugural contest of the new year.
In their second matchup of the day, Illinois Wesleyan aims for its first victory over Division II Cedarville University. The Yellow Jackets have maintained a dominant position with a perfect record of five wins against Illinois Wesleyan since 2019. Their last encounter occurred on February 4, 2023, when Cedarville secured a 5-1 victory. This match also marks Cedarville's debut for the year as they last played on October 8, 2024, suffering a narrow loss to Indiana Tech.
