A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Livingston County Il Clerk Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request was made by us at McLean County Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The specific information sought includes a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The details requested for each candidate are their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; as well as contact information including address, phone number and email address.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
