For the first time in its history, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team has received a Player of the Week award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This accolade was awarded to sophomore Brenden Reutter on February 11, 2025. Just a day earlier, Reutter had been named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Setter of the Week.
Reutter's recent performances have been noteworthy. He played a key role in leading his team to a 2-1 week, which included their first victory over a ranked opponent. During this period, he achieved two triple-double performances against No. 19 Dominican University and Benedictine University. These accomplishments make him the only player in Division III with two triple-doubles this season.
Throughout the week, Reutter accumulated 75 assists, averaging five per set; 30 kills at an average of two per set with a .396 attack percentage; 40 digs averaging 2.67 per set; six blocks; and five aces.
The week's highlights include his career-best performance against Dominican University on February 6, where he recorded ten kills on a .438 clip, along with 25 assists and a career-high of 21 digs. Against Benedictine University on February 9, he logged another triple-double with 28 assists, eleven kills, twelve digs, and five blocks.
Looking ahead, Reutter and his team will participate in the Morgan Classic hosted by Springfield College from February 14-15. They are scheduled to play Arcadia University on Friday night before potentially facing either No.7 Springfield or No.1 NYU on Saturday. This trip also marks a return for IWU head coach Brandon Mueller to his alma mater where he won two National Championships.
