After a delay due to cold weather, the Frost Classic in Chattanooga resumed with Illinois State facing two opponents on Saturday. The Redbirds were defeated by Indiana State 2-0 and then lost to the host team, Chattanooga, 4-2 at Frost Stadium.
In the first game against Indiana State, the Sycamores scored an unearned run in the first inning and added another in the sixth. Hailey Griffin's pitching limited Illinois State to one hit and one walk while striking out four batters. Julia Larson had a hit for Illinois State, and Hannah Meshnick pitched six innings with eight hits allowed.
In their second game against Chattanooga, the Mocs took an early lead with runs in the first two innings and extended it with a two-run homer by Acelynn Sellers in the third. Delainey Bryant responded for Illinois State with a solo home run—the team's first of the season—and Addison Masching scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. However, that was as close as they got.
Illinois State will play Southeast Missouri State and Lamar on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT and 11:30 a.m. CT respectively.
