The Illinois State women's tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over Radford University at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The match took place on February 22 and marked the Redbirds' fifth win of the season, improving their record to 5-4.
In doubles play, freshman Emma Lindh from Malmo, Sweden, and graduate student Elena Jankulovska from Skopje, Macedonia, claimed a decisive 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Junior Nuria Sanz of Valencia, Spain, paired with freshman Nicole Iosio from Cordenons, Italy, to achieve a 6-2 victory against their opponents from Radford.
During singles competition, Illinois State won four matches. Silvia Pomarolli triumphed over Abrams with scores of 7-5 and 6-2 at No. 2 singles. At No. 4 singles, Nuria Sanz defeated Reimer in straight sets with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Elena Jankulovska achieved a commanding win over Murphy at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Nicole Iosio secured the final win for Illinois State at No. 6 singles by winning her match in a tiebreaker.
Illinois State's next match is scheduled against Eastern Illinois at Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington on March 2. They will then face SIUE in Edwardsville on March 9.
