The Illinois State women's golf team is in a strong position as they head into the final round of the 2025 WMU Rio Verde Invitational. The team currently holds third place among 21 competing teams.
Jinyoung Yun has delivered another impressive performance, carding a three-under-par 69 in the second round. She stands at four-under through 36 holes, placing her in second place individually with one round remaining.
Xavier leads the tournament with an even-par score of 576, followed by Cal Baptist at 579. Illinois State trails closely with a score of 583. Other top contenders include Kennesaw State and Ball State, scoring 590 and 597 respectively. Central Michigan and Utah Tech are tied at 599, while Wichita State follows at 602.
Yun's day started with challenges as she bogeyed two of her first three holes but recovered to finish under par by the tenth hole. Despite another bogey on the eleventh hole, she rallied with birdies on three of her last five holes to secure her score for the day.
Morgan Jones is tied for fourth place individually after finishing her second round with a one-over-par 73, bringing her total to one-under for the tournament. Her steady play included two birdies and thirteen pars.
Lory Paradis finished her round with a three-over-par 75, using five birdies and seven pars to tie for thirty-fifth place after two rounds. Freshmen Elise Fennell and Jessica Jolly are both tied for forty-ninth place after scoring nine-over-par totals over two rounds.
The Redbirds will compete alongside co-leaders Xavier and Cal Baptist in tomorrow's final round.
