The Illinois State Redbirds emerged victorious in the first game of their final Missouri Valley Conference series against Murray State, winning 4-2. This conference matchup, delayed due to rain, began with the Racers taking an early lead through a home run in the second inning. However, the Redbirds rallied in the top of the third and fourth innings to secure the win.

Masching delivered with a notable RBI single, while Boyer drove in a run that allowed Illinois State to capture and extend their lead. The Redbirds capitalized on two wild pitches to score additional runs that solidified their advantage.
From the pitching standpoint, Hannah Meshnick proved instrumental in the Redbirds’ defense, securing her 11th win of the season. She pitched seven innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
Looking ahead, the two teams will face off again on Saturday for the second game of their series, with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m. CT in Murray.
