Illinois State athletes recognized by Missouri Valley Conference for academic and athletic excellence

The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) has announced its Track and Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year and the Scholar-Athlete teams. The announcement was made on Thursday morning.

Erin Starks, a junior, has been named the MVC Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This award is given to student-athletes who show excellence both in academics and athletics. Starks maintains a GPA of 3.5 while contributing significantly to her team's performance at the MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships by securing 22 points for Illinois State University. Her achievements include a runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay, as well as a third-place finish in the 200m dash.

In addition to Starks, 17 other Redbirds have been named to the MVC's Scholar Team. Eligibility for this team requires student-athletes to meet criteria set by College Sports Communicators: maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, being at least a sophomore in academic standing according to CSC eligibility standards, and placing in the top eight in an individual event or top three in a relay event at either indoor or outdoor track & field championships.
