The Illinois State track and field program received two postseason awards, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Associate Head Coach DeShaun Jordan was named the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year. This is his first career outdoor award in this category, following a similar honor during the indoor season. During the recent MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Jordan guided seven Redbirds to score points in eleven events, contributing 59 of the team's total 119 points for a runner-up finish.
Junior Lindsey Miller, coached by Jordan, secured back-to-back titles in the women's 100m dash at this championship. She is now the first in Illinois State history to achieve consecutive wins in this event.
The men's team was recognized as the 2024-25 Track & Field & Cross Country Program of the Year after securing four individual MVC titles and achieving significant team placements throughout the season. Senior William Sinclair claimed victory at the MVC Men's Cross Country Championship and later qualified for the NCAA Championship with a ninth-place finish at the Midwest Regional.
In indoor competition, Senior Ariel Atias defended his heptathlon title at the MVC Indoor Track & Field Championship with 5353 points. The men's 4x400m relay team also won their event with a record time of 3:10.51.
During outdoor championships, Illinois State achieved a runner-up finish with 151 points. Senior Zack Loomis earned his first career title in the 10,000m race, while Freshman Victor Byaundaombe won his inaugural championship in men's triple jump.
As they prepare for further competitions, Byaundaombe and six other Redbird athletes have qualified for participation in upcoming NCAA West Region First Round events starting Wednesday.
