Illinois State track and field concludes first day at NCAA West First Round

The Illinois State track and field team concluded the first day of competition at the NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas. Two athletes represented the Redbirds on this opening day.

Junior Charles Cruse participated in the men's pole vault but was unable to record a mark after failing to clear 5.02 meters (16-5.5) on his third attempt. This marked his second career appearance at the NCAA West First Round.

In another event, Junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. completed the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.30 seconds, concluding Illinois State's participation for the day. Nwagwu Jr. is set to compete again in the men's 4x400m relay scheduled for Friday at 8:45 p.m. CST.

Illinois State will continue its participation on Thursday with Junior Erin Starks and Senior Corrina Courser competing in the women's 100-meter hurdles, beginning at 6:00 p.m. CST. Sophomore Immaculate Daniel will close out day two for Illinois State by participating in the 100-meter dash starting at 7:00 p.m. CST.
