Barger and Faucquez pace Redbirds on opening day at Island Resort Intercollegiate

Redbird golfers TJ Barger and Max Faucquez led Illinois State University at the 2025 Island Resort Intercollegiate in Bark River, Michigan, finishing the first two rounds under par. The team ended the day in 10th place at six under par, with one round remaining.

West Virginia holds the lead after two rounds with a score of 536 (-40). Purdue, St. Mary's, Michigan, and Michigan State complete the top five teams. UCF, Nebraska, South Dakota State, and UTEP are just ahead of Illinois State's total of 569. Ball State and Miami (Ohio) close out the tournament field.

Barger posted a one-under 71 in his first round and followed it with a six-under 66 in his second round. His 66 ties for the 19th-lowest single-round score in program history. He is tied for ninth overall after 36 holes.

Faucquez recorded scores of two-under 70 and three-under 69 for a combined total of 139, placing him tied for 16th individually.

Francis Bautista finished at +2 for the day with rounds of 71 and 75. He is tied for 62nd in the individual standings after making six birdies over both rounds.

Sophomore Aiden Cudney shot rounds of 74 and 73 to tie for 68th place heading into the final round. He made four birdies per round.

Senior Pietro Pontiggia competed as an individual, shooting a first-round score of 77 before carding a one-under 71 in his second round. He is tied for 73rd overall.

Gonzalo Cuellar played his first collegiate tournament, recording rounds of 74 and 75. He made five birdies across both rounds and sits in 78th place entering the last day.
