Bloomington Public Library Board met Aug. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

I. Call to Order

President Sherman called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m.

II. Roll Call

MEMBERS PRESENT: Ary Anderson, Laurie Nippe, Ruth Novosad, Stephen Peterson, Patti Salch, Stephanie Walden, Jodi Sherman

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

OTHERS PRESENT: Amy Dunham, Jeanne Hamilton, Kathy Jeakins

III. Introductions:

There were no introductions.

IV. Public Comments:

There were no public comments.

V. President’s Report

President Jodi Sherman informed the Board that she was now receiving the ALA newsletter and will be happy to pass it along if anyone is interested.

VI. Approval of Minutes

A. July 15, 2020

Hearing no objections, the minutes were approved as distributed.

VII. Staff Reports

A. Director’s Report: Jeanne Hamilton, Library Director, shared that in August, the Library hosted two children’s story times and one movie for adults. The events were accomplished safely and having in-person programming added some normalcy back. The Library will continue with the slower pace of programming through the Fall. Discussion was held on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Staff Committee.

B. Outreach Report: Jeanne Hamilton reported the bookmobile schedule has been reinstituted. Patrons can pick up their holds and return items. Patrons are not on the vehicle yet due to the small space constraints.

C. Financial Report: Kathy Jeakins, Business Manager, provided the financial report in the Board packet. At this time of year, there is usually not much activity and it is reflected on the report. The fourth Property Tax distribution was received in July 2020. Please note that GPPLD did purchase a 14-month CD for $60,000. This brings the capital projects total to approximately $136,000.

VIII. Action Items

A. Adopt Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance 20-01

STEPHEN PETERSON MOVED, ARY ANDERSON SECONDED, TO ADOPT THE ANNUAL BUDGET AND APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE, NO. 20-01, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING THE FIRST DAY OF JULY 2020 AND ENDING THE 30TH DAY OF JUNE 2021, IN THE AMOUNT OF $462,232.00.

YAYS: ARY ANDERSON, LAURIE NIPPE, RUTH NOVOSAD, STEPHEN PETERSON, PATTI SALCH, STEPHANIE WALDEN, JODI SHERMAN

NAYS : NONE

ABSENT: NONE

THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

IX. Comments from Board Trustees

A. Trustees gave positive feedback on the 2020 Summer Reading Program and asked how it went this year. Jeanne provided an overview of the turnout, what was offered, and how the public responded. The Letterboxing Program was received very well and enjoyed by families during this social-distancing time.

B. GPPLD mentioned a few ideas of ways the Library could support the local schools during E-learning. Jeanne shared that the Library does have relationships with many of the school media specialists and have had some discussions with them on how the Library can support the schools.

President Sherman adjourned the meeting at 5:20 p.m.
