Feddersen Takes Home Two Titles on Second Day of CCIW Championship

Senior Lauren Feddersen (Champaign, Ill.-Centennial) earned two individual titles at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship to pace the Illinois Wesleyan University swimming and diving teams Friday, Feb. 17. After two days of competition, both the men and women sit in fourth place.

Feddersen reeled in wins in the 400 yard Individual Medley and 100 yard Breaststroke. Defending her title in the 400 IM, she kicked off the night with a season-best time of 4:35.51 to win the event for the second straight season. She followed that up with a career-best showing the 100 Breast, touching in with a time of 1:05.58.

Sophomore Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University), one day removed from her own individual CCIW Championship in the 200 IM, came in just behind Feddersen in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:05.60 to complete IWU's one-two punch. Freshman Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) added a runner-up finish in the 100 yard Backstroke with a time of 58.89. She came in less than a second behind the winner, while junior Jackie Rae Kelch (Peoria, Ill.-Notre Dame) earned third (1:00.26).

Kuschewski, Fudge, Kelch, and junior Bella Calcagno (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) led the Titans to a second-place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay. The group turned in a time of 1:47.84 and saw Kuschewski kick off the race with a personal-best 50 yard Back time of 27.35.

On the men's side, Illinois Wesleyan junior Lane Wagner (Danville, Ill.-Danville) recorded a time of 4:08.47 to secure second-place in the 400 IM. Fellow junior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) snagged sixth-place in the 100 yard Butterfly with his time of 50.63.

With 38 events completed, Augustana tops the standings on both sides. For women, Augie holds a slim one-point lead over Wheaton at 512.5. Behind the Thunder's 511.5 points is Carthage with 413. IWU's 408 is good for fourth, while Carroll (227), Millikin (161), and North Central (86) round out the standings.

Augie sits atop the men's leaderboard with 673.5 points, with Wheaton in second at 598. Carthage is in third (545.5) followed by the Green and White (267). Carroll (135) owns a slim edge over Millikin (130), with North Central in seventh place with 63 points.

The final day of the three-day meet gets underway tomorrow, Feb. 18, at 10:30 a.m. with the preliminary session. The final session of the meet will follow at 6 p.m.
