Illinois State soccer (2-6-2, 0-1-1 MVC) experienced its first conference loss on Sunday as Belmont (5-5-1, 2-0-0 MVC) secured a 2-0 victory at Adelaide Street Field.

The Redbirds generated several strong opportunities in the first half but were unable to capitalize. Freshman Chloe Cline had two shots on target, both saved by Belmont. Fellow freshman Eve Gricius nearly scored in the 42nd minute, but her attempt went over the crossbar.

Belmont took the lead in the 43rd minute and extended it in the 64th minute. Both teams recorded eight shots and four shots on goal each, while Illinois State led in corner kicks with three compared to Belmont's two. Madi Valenti made two saves for Illinois State.

The Redbirds will next face Drake on September 29 at 1 p.m. CT, with coverage available on ESPN+.
