A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Fairbury City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at McLean County Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The information sought includes a list of all council members with specific details such as their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates.
We believe that access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
As always, we remain committed to serving our readers with accurate and timely information about their local government. We will continue to keep you updated on this matter as more information becomes available.
