Illinois State University faced a challenging day at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, suffering defeats in both of their games on Friday. The Redbirds first competed against Florida International University (FIU) and later took on Indiana University.

In the opening game against FIU, Illinois State's strong pitching performance extended the match into extra innings. Hannah Meshnick pitched 7.1 innings without allowing an earned run until FIU broke through with an RBI single in the eighth inning. This led to a 4-0 loss for Illinois State as they failed to score any runs.

During their second game against Indiana, the Redbirds initially gained an advantage by scoring two runs in the third inning with Abby Knight's RBI single. However, Indiana responded with five runs in the fifth inning and added another in the sixth, making it 6-2. Illinois State attempted a comeback in the seventh inning but fell short, losing 6-5.

The Redbirds are set to conclude their participation in the tournament with a game against North Dakota State on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT.
