Illinois Wesleyan athletes shine at GVSU Big Meet-Friday

In Allendale, Michigan, the Illinois Wesleyan University track and field teams participated in the GVSU Big Meet-Friday, where several athletes achieved notable performances. Junior Evan Lowder from Bloomington, Illinois set a new all-conditions school record in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.87 seconds. This makes him only the second athlete in IWU history to break 22 seconds in this event indoors. His achievement surpassed Segun Olopo's record of 21.93 seconds, which had stood since 2008.

Lowder also delivered a season-best performance in the 400-meter race with a time of 48.76 seconds. Meanwhile, senior Nick Fisch recorded a career-best time of 15:12.30 in the men's 5,000-meter run, finishing sixth in his heat and moving up to fifth on IWU's indoor all-time list.

Senior Annalese Chudy marked her name in IWU records with an eighth-fastest time of 18:11.15 in the women's indoor 5,000 meters. Freshman Alex Reinhart continued her impressive debut season by winning the early section of the women's open 800 meters with a personal best of 2:15.25.

Junior Adriana Crabtree bettered her career-best time in the women's open mile race, completing it in 4:59.41, ranking second in program history for this event.

In field events, sophomore Matt Lindberg finished second in the men's high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters while junior Isaac Whitaker secured eighth place in the men's pole vault clearing 4.50 meters.

Senior Carlyssa King achieved an eighth-place finish in the women's weight throw with a distance of 16.77 meters and senior CJ Ladewig placed ninth in the men's weight throw reaching 16.04 meters.

Sophomore Imani Ogunribido finished ninth in the women's triple jump invite section with an effort measuring at 11.36 meters.

Sophomore Reece Dusek recorded a season-best performance clocking at 50.10 seconds during an early section of the men's 400 meters and senior Alex Harvey posted an effort of 8.72 seconds during preliminaries for men’s hurdles.

The team will next compete at Monmouth College's Roger Haynes Invitational scheduled for February 15th starting at approximately ten forty-five AM.
