Illinois State track and field team completes day one of the Normal Invite

The Illinois State track and field team completed the first day of competition at the Normal Invite on Friday at the Redbird Track & Field Complex.

Sophomore Adison Scott achieved a season-best throw of 48.88m (160-4) in the hammer throw, securing second place. Freshman Brianna Brodie reached a personal best with a throw of 42.82m (140-5) and finished sixth.

In the men's competition, Sophomore Cole Stevens won the hammer throw with a personal best of 55.70m (182-9). Senior Josh Schmid contributed to a Redbirds 1-2 finish with a throw of 53.50m (175-6). Junior Anthony Smith took fourth place with a throw of 49.25m (161-7).

During the sole track event for the Redbirds on Friday, Junior Nnenna Okpara achieved a season-best in the 200m, clocking a time of 24.26. The Illinois State team captured the top five positions as Freshmen K'Leigh Saenz (25.19) and Layla Lerus (25.29) recorded personal best times.

"UP NEXT," the release mentioned that the Redbirds will continue competing at the Redbird Track & Field Complex for day two of the Normal Invite, with events resuming at 10 a.m.
