Senior volleyball player Taylor French from Illinois Wesleyan University has been selected for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Demonstrator Scholarship. The AVCA announced on Friday, November 7, that French will attend the organization's annual convention in Kansas City, Missouri, from December 17 to 21.
French expressed her appreciation for the recognition. "Being selected to represent Illinois Wesleyan University as a demonstrator at the AVCA Volleyball Convention is an incredible honor," she said. "It is an opportunity not only to showcase my skills and passion for the game, but also to learn from and connect with some of the best coaches and athletes in the sport. I am excited to grow, build relationships, and take another step toward my future in coaching, representing IWU with pride every step of the way."
During her time at Illinois Wesleyan, French has become the program's all-time leader in kills, aces, and points. She is a three-time All-American and plans to pursue a career in coaching after graduation.
The AVCA Demonstrator Scholarship supports 36 student-athletes who serve as demonstrators during on-court educational sessions at its annual convention. The scholarship program is now in its fifth year and has included more than 135 players since it began. In addition to their roles during sessions, participants can attend seminars focused on professional and personal development for coaches and network with others in the field. Interest in pursuing a coaching career was one of the criteria considered during selection.
This year's group includes 31 indoor players and five beach players from various collegiate levels: 16 Division I athletes, 11 from Division II schools, eight from Division III programs like Illinois Wesleyan University, and one NAIA player. The demonstrators represent 31 different schools across multiple positions and class years.
