For the third consecutive week, Illinois Wesleyan University's men's lacrosse team has secured recognition from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Senior Michael Campagna was named Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 9.
Campagna is the third player from Illinois Wesleyan to receive a weekly award this season. His teammates Trystan Seeley and Colin Tervo were honored in previous weeks.
Campagna's defensive performance was instrumental in IWU's victories over the University of Dubuque and Augustana College. The defense allowed only 14 goals while the Titans scored 39. In the game against UD, which ended 16-11 in favor of IWU, Campagna matched his career-high with seven ground balls and set a new personal best with five caused turnovers.
The Arlington Heights native ranks third in the conference for caused turnovers per game, averaging 2.20 with a total of 22 this season.
Illinois Wesleyan is scheduled to face North Central College on Wednesday, April 10, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium at 7 p.m.
