Illinois Wesleyan track teams excel on first day of CCIW Championships

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams made a strong showing on the first day of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships. The teams secured seven All-CCIW performances, with the women's distance medley relay team winning a championship title for the first time since 2013.

After the initial day of competition, the IWU women's team ranked third with 24 points, trailing Carthage College and North Central. The men's team placed fifth with 21 points.

The standout performance came from sophomores Brooke Nazos, Adriana Crabtree, Jordynn Griffin, and freshman Peyton Stinger in the distance medley relay. They clinched victory with a time of 12 minutes, 29.57 seconds after Crabtree broke away during the mile anchor leg.

Sophomore Jahari Scott achieved a personal best in the long jump finals with a mark of 6.88m (22'7"), earning second place and All-CCIW honors for his second consecutive year. His jump ranks fifth in IWU's history. Teammates Carson Green and Brooks Johnson also earned All-CCIW accolades in this event.

In pole vaulting, sophomore Isaac Whitaker finished as runner-up with a clearance of 4.65m (15'3"), marking his second indoor All-CCIW honor.

Scott advanced to tomorrow's 60-meter dash finals along with freshman Reece Dusek, who recorded a personal best time. Junior Alex Harvey topped the preliminary heats for the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best effort that ranks ninth all-time for IWU.

Junior Carlyssa King achieved a personal-best mark in weight throw to secure fifth place while senior Lauren Wong earned her first indoor long jump All-CCIW honor by finishing fifth.

Junior Annalese Chudy claimed third place in the women's 5,000-meter run for her second consecutive year earning All-CCIW honors in this event.

Freshman Imani Ogunribido will compete in tomorrow's finals after posting one of Friday's fastest times in the preliminary rounds of the 60-meter dash.

In men's heptathlon standings after day one, sophomore Ashtin Elder is sixth while senior Joshua Klein is ninth. The heptathlon concludes tomorrow alongside other events at Al B. Carius Track in Naperville, Ill., starting at noon for field events and at 12:30 p.m. for track events.
