The Illinois Wesleyan University wrestling teams faced Eureka College on January 10 in Eureka, Illinois. The men's team lost 40-17 to the Red Devils, while freshman Sifa Feruzi was the only competitor for the women's team, which lost its first dual match of the year 34-1.
Feruzi competed for the fourth time but was defeated by Eureka's Alex Parks with a 12-2 technical fall. On the men's side, freshman Evan Carel maintained his undefeated record at 157 pounds by defeating Colton Davis with a 19-4 technical fall.
Freshman Lucas Blanton secured his first collegiate win and pin after leading his opponent 6-3 with a three-point takedown and an escape. Senior Bobby Conroy won his bout at 184 pounds by forfeit, contributing to IWU's total of 17 points.
Senior Omar AlQammaz participated in a 157-pound exhibition match and achieved his third career pin. The Illinois Wesleyan wrestling teams will next compete at Cornell College's Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa on January 18.
