Ashtin Elder stands third after first day of Keck Select heptathlon

Illinois Wesleyan University hosted the Keck Select, its largest home meet of the season, at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois. The event began with the men's heptathlon on Friday night, February 7. Junior heptathlete Ashtin Elder from Chenoa, Illinois is representing the Titans and currently holds third place after four events with a total of 2191 points.

Elder started strong in the 60-meter dash, recording a personal-best time of 7.39 seconds to secure the second-fastest time in the field. He continued his performance with third-place finishes in both the long jump and shot put events. Elder achieved a distance of 5.60 meters (18'4.50") in the long jump and threw 9.57 meters (31'4.75") in the shot put.

In his final event for day one, Elder cleared 1.62 meters (5'3.75") in the high jump, placing fourth overall in that segment of the competition.

Ashtin Elder's current standing places him third overall as he heads into day two of competition where three more events await: the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m run. The hurdles are scheduled to begin Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by senior day recognition at Illinois Wesleyan at 10 a.m., with open field and running events commencing at 10:45 a.m.
