Illinois Wesleyan University's junior sprinter, Evan Lowder, has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Track Athlete of the Week. This marks his second recognition this season. The announcement was made by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Lowder's accolade follows a record-setting performance in the 200-meter race and a strong showing in the 400-meter event at the GVSU Big Meet-Friday held last weekend. On February 15, he set a new indoor 200m all-conditions school record on GVSU's 300m track. He is now one of only two Titans to have broken the 22-second mark indoors, joining former record holder Segun Olopo from 2008.
In addition to his achievement in the 200m, Lowder recorded a season-best time in the 400m with a run of 48.76 seconds. He currently leads the conference in this event and ranks third in the 200m.
The Illinois Wesleyan track and field teams will compete again at home on Friday, February 21, as they host the Friday Night Meet at the Shirk Center.
