IWU track and field shines ahead of CCIW Championships

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their home meet schedule on February 21. The Titans hosted Millikin University and Heartland Community College for the Friday Night Tri, securing 12 first-place finishes.

Nine athletes from IWU improved their standings in the university's top-10 lists. Sophomore Reece Dusek and junior Joe Freedman both made it to the all-time list in the 60-meter event. Dusek clocked a 7.06 in the preliminary round, securing sixth place, while Freedman's time of 7.08 placed him seventh. Dusek also joined the top-10 list in the 200m dash with a winning time of 22.83.

In men's long jump, sophomore Carson Green and freshman Nick Walker achieved top-10 marks. Green's jump of 6.75m earned him second place and seventh all-time for IWU, while Walker's 6.71m secured third place for the evening and tied for ninth in program history.

Senior Alex Harvey advanced on the all-time list with a personal-best effort of 8.47 in the 60m hurdles, finishing second at the meet and ranking eighth in program history.

Senior Carlyssa King claimed victories in women's weight throw (17.32m) and shot put (11.76m), moving up to seventh place in Titan history for shot put. Sophomore Lauryn Moore finished third with an 11.40m throw, placing ninth on IWU's laurels.

Senior Evelyn Wilson had a breakthrough performance in women's high jump with a career-best of 1.60m, ranking eighth historically at IWU, finishing as runner-up for the night. Senior Emma McGrath won the women's mile with a personal-best time of 5:12.29, making her tenth on IWU’s all-time list.

Illinois Wesleyan will now focus on preparing for next week's CCIW Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin, hosted by Carthage College from February 28 to March 1.
