Illinois Wesleyan track teams end two-meet weekend with strong performances

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up a competitive two-meet weekend, participating in the Redbird Challenge in Normal, Illinois, and the Big Blue Alumni Invite in Decatur, Illinois, on March 29. The athletes secured numerous first-place finishes and achieved personal bests, marking notable performances across various events.

During the Redbird Challenge, sophomore Imani Ogunribido won the women's triple jump with a 11.85m mark, while teammate Franchesca Smith finished third. Junior Jahari Scott achieved a third-place finish in the men's 100m dash with a personal best of 10.86 seconds, now the fifth-fastest in the program’s history. Senior Ernie Waterson recorded a personal best in the men's 1500m, ranking fifth in the university's history with a time of 4:00.38.

At the Big Blue Alumni Invite, freshman Kelsey Moore won the women's 100m and 400m hurdles. Freshman Alex Reinhart took first in the women's 400m. Senior Jordynn Griffin and sophomore Olivia Skibinski secured second and third places in the women’s 200m and 100m events, respectively.

Sophomore Reece Dusek impressed in the men's events, landing top-5 rankings in program history with his performances in the 200m and 400m races. Freshman Nyamedze Maison and Jaden Preston also entered the top 10 for the men's 100m dash.

The meets also saw solid relay performances, with the IWU women winning both the 4-by-100m and 4-by-400m relays at the Big Blue Alumni Invite. The men's 4-by-100m relay team was victorious, finishing in 42.62 seconds.

Top-three finishes at the Big Blue Invite included Kamden Reynolds in the men's 110m hurdles and sophomores Noah Sadowski and Luke Alberstett, who placed in the open 400m and 400m hurdles respectively. Illinois Wesleyan's track and field teams now prepare for the Huntsman Family Invitational at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, on April 5.
